Abai Kunanbayuly’s Spiritual Legacy Discussed in Tehran

An international seminar titled “Abai’s Legacy – World Pride of Kazakhstan,” dedicated to promoting the works and spiritual legacy of the great Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbaiuly, was held at the Economic Cooperation Organization Cultural Institute (ECOCI) in Tehran.
The event brought together heads of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Tehran, Abai scholars, representatives of the intellectual community, and the media.
Opening the seminar, President of the ECO Cultural Institute Muhammad Hassan highly praised Abai’s works and noted that his spiritual legacy represents a shared cultural heritage of the ECO member states.
Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Iran Ontalap Onalbayev delivered a presentation titled “On the Great Abai,” highlighting Abai’s role as an outstanding thinker, poet, educator, and founder of modern Kazakh national literature.
In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized the particular significance of Abai’s ideas on knowledge, hard work, honesty, national unity, and the building of a just society, noting that they remain highly relevant in today’s world.
Special attention was also given to the international significance of Abai’s legacy. It was noted that the poet’s works have been translated into numerous languages, including Persian, while Eastern literature was one of the key sources of inspiration for his creative work. Kazakhstan continues its efforts to introduce Abai to the international community as a figure of universal significance.
The seminar also featured presentations by Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Iranian, and Uzbek scholars on various aspects of Abai’s works and legacy. Participants were also shown a video highlighting the richness of his spiritual heritage.
