Political Transformations in Kazakhstan and Prospects for Cooperation with Korea Discussed in Seoul

Seoul, August 27, 2026 - Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Asset Issenali participated in the Central Asia Political Forum held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea ahead of the inaugural Central Asia-Republic of Korea Summit.

The event brought together members of the National Assembly, as well as representatives of the Republic of Korea’s expert and academic communities. The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of cooperation between the Central Asian countries and Korea, as well as expectations for the upcoming meeting of the leaders.

In his remarks, Ambassador Issenali provided the participants with detailed information on the political and socio-economic transformations under way in Kazakhstan. Particular attention was paid to the results of the elections to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan held on August 23 and the formation of the new unicameral Parliament.

It was noted that the elections marked a continuation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s consistent course aimed at modernizing the political system, enhancing the effectiveness of state institutions and further strengthening the principles of the rule of law.

Alongside the political reforms, the participants were briefed on Kazakhstan’s socio-economic development priorities, including economic diversification, digital transformation, improvement of the investment climate and expansion of international economic cooperation.

Korean parliamentarians and experts positively assessed the transformations taking place in Kazakhstan, congratulated the country on the successful conduct of the elections and highlighted the consistent nature of the reforms being implemented.

In the context of the upcoming inaugural Central Asia-Republic of Korea Summit, the participants also exchanged views on new opportunities to expand political dialogue, trade and investment ties, technological cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

It was emphasized that the forthcoming meeting of the leaders should become an important milestone in advancing a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership between the Republic of Korea and the Central Asian countries.
