Brussels, 2 September 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Belgium hosted a photo exhibition entitled “Tazy — Faster than the Wind”, marking Tazy and Tobet Day, celebrated in Kazakhstan on 3 September. The exhibition highlighted the Kazakh Tazy, one of the country’s national dog breeds and a distinctive part of the cultural heritage of the Great Steppe.

The guest of honour was Yves De Clercq, Executive Director of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). The exhibition also brought together Members of the European Parliament, mayors of Belgian cities, ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic corps, as well as representatives of international organisations, cultural and business circles, the media and the Kazakh diaspora.

Holding the exhibition in Belgium carried particular symbolic significance, as the headquarters of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) are located in the Belgian city of Thuin. On 3 September 2024, the FCI officially granted the Kazakh Tazy preliminary recognition as a breed, with Kazakhstan designated as its country of origin.

“The Tazy is much more than a national dog breed. It is part of our history, traditions and cultural memory. Its international recognition marked an important milestone. Our task now is to preserve this unique heritage and make the Kazakh Tazy better known around the world,” said Roman Vassilenko, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium.

The author of the exhibition, photographer and Tazy breeder Abzal Dosyman, presented a series of photographs capturing the distinctive character, grace and unique features of the Kazakh Tazy.

For his part, Yves De Clercq highlighted the cultural significance of the Tazy for Kazakhstan and stressed the importance of continued cooperation with the Kazakh side in preserving the breed and promoting it internationally.

Following the opening of the exhibition, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh delegation visited the FCI headquarters in Thuin, where they discussed further cooperation and prospects for promoting the Kazakh Tazy internationally.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Kazakh side presented the FCI Museum with a photograph of a Tazy by Abzal Dosyman, along with books dedicated to the breed, as a symbol of friendship and cooperation.

The event formed part of Kazakhstan’s continued efforts to preserve and promote the Tazy and Tobet as an integral part of the country’s national historical and cultural heritage.
