The “Ümit–2026” exhibition and competition of paintings and decorative and applied art works created by inmates was held at the Botai Art Gallery in Petropavlovsk.
The competition featured 18 creative works by inmates from five correctional institutions in the North Kazakhstan Region. The jury evaluated paintings, hand-sewn traditional Kazakh costumes presented in a modern interpretation, as well as compositions made of plasticine.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including representatives of the Department’s leadership, public figures, professional art historians, representatives of M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University and the Museum of Fine Arts.
During the exhibition, representatives of each institution presented the inmates’ creative works and spoke about their concepts, artistic techniques and authors. The works demonstrated not only the participants’ artistic abilities, but also their desire for self-expression, creative development and engagement with cultural values.
According to the results of the competition, third place was awarded to an inmate from Institution No. 50 for the work “Kazakh Trench Coat,” created as a modern interpretation of the national costume.
Second place went to an inmate from Institution No. 52 for the painting “Golden Glimmer of My Native Land.”
First place was also awarded to an inmate from Institution No. 52 for the painting “Autumn Dawn.”
The best works from the competition will now proceed to the national stage, where they will represent the North Kazakhstan Region.
