Kazakhstan celebrates Family Day on the second Sunday of September—a holiday dedicated to highlighting the importance of family values, mutual understanding, and support. Ahead of this date, the "Government for Citizens" State Corporation has released statistics on marriage registrations in the country.
Between January and August 2026, 74,648 marriages were officially registered in the country. More than half of these took place during the three summer months, a season that sees a surge in marriage registrations in Kazakhstan.
"The functions of the Civil Registry Office (RAGS) were transferred to the State Corporation on July 1, 2023. Since then, our staff have registered approximately 400,000 marriages and issued over 1 million birth certificates. Behind each of these services lie significant life events. We therefore consistently improve our processes and develop digital services, striving to make accessing government services as convenient, comfortable, and accessible as possible for citizens," noted Arman Kenzhegaliyev, Chairman of the Board of the "Government for Citizens" State Corporation.
While families are being formed across all regions of the country, the highest number of marriage registrations occurs in the largest cities and most populous regions. Almaty leads the list, with 12,344 families officially registered. Astana ranks second, with 9,074 couples formalizing their unions, followed by the Turkistan Region in third place with 5,611 registrations.
June was the peak month for weddings, with over 15,000 couples officially registering their marriages. August saw 11,761 registrations, while July recorded 11,674. In total, more than 38,000 marriages took place over the summer—accounting for over half of all marriages registered during the first eight months of 2026.
Marriage registration is classified as a government service related to the registration of civil status acts. You can submit an application for marriage registration directly to the registration authority, electronically via the e-government portal, or through the mobile applications of second-tier banks.
