International travel publisher Lonely Planet has included Astana in its annual Best in Travel 2027 selection of the world’s top destinations and travel experiences. Kazakhstan’s capital is among 50 destinations and experiences recommended for travellers in 2027.

Best in Travel 2027 features 25 destinations and 25 experiences selected by the Lonely Planet team. Astana was recognised as a destination in its own right and highlighted as “Best for futuristic skylines” for its distinctive modern architecture.

Lonely Planet’s authors draw attention to the capital’s contemporary architecture and recognisable skyline, highlighting the unusual architectural designs and landmarks that shape the city’s modern appearance.

Lonely Planet’s dedicated guide to Astana also identifies architecture as one of the capital’s defining features. Among the city’s notable landmarks, the publication highlights the Baiterek Monument, Khan Shatyr shopping and entertainment centre, the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, the Kazakhstan Central Concert Hall and other examples of contemporary architecture.

Astana’s inclusion in Best in Travel 2027 reflects international interest in Kazakhstan’s capital as a travel destination in its own right and creates additional opportunities to promote the city in the global tourism market.

Kazakhstan has previously received recognition from Lonely Planet. The country was featured among its recommended travel destinations in Best in Travel 2025. The 2027 selection places a particular focus on Astana and its modern architectural character.
