Private Denis Mukhin serves in Military Unit 6506 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Shymkent. Standing nearly two meters tall, he wears size 47 shoes.
The 19-year-old serviceman was drafted for compulsory military service from Almaty Region. Before joining the army, he graduated from Talgar Polytechnic College with a degree in automotive electrical engineering.
He has played volleyball since childhood, and by the ninth grade he was already wearing size 45 shoes. According to Denis, his height and large feet are inherited from his father.
His unusual height also became noticeable during the first days of military service. At the training point, he had to wear sneakers provided by the military unit for several days while a suitable pair of combat boots was being found for him.
Eventually, the logistics service managed to find size 47 boots. The unusually large combat boots have since become one of the most noticeable details of the Guardsman’s equipment.
Today, Denis patrols the streets of Shymkent every day, helping maintain public order and ensure the safety of residents and visitors to the city.
At the same time, Denis stands out among his fellow servicemen for more than just his height. He has a good command of the Kazakh language and communicates fluently in it in his daily service.
Passers-by often take notice of the tall Guardsman in uniform. His fellow servicemen, meanwhile, jokingly call him “Gulliver.”
