Kazakhstan and Kuwait Petroleum International Identify Promising Areas for Cooperation

Al-Kuwait, 5 October 2026 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the State of Kuwait Yerzhan Yelekeyev held a meeting with Shafi Al-Ajmi, President of Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI).

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors, as well as potential areas for further practical engagement.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of aviation fuel, including opportunities for interaction with Kazakh airlines and airports, as well as prospects for developing the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) sector.

The sides also considered opportunities for cooperation in the retail distribution of petroleum products, including the development of modern filling stations and related infrastructure in Kazakhstan, taking into account KPI’s international experience under the Q8 brand.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue jointly exploring specific areas and projects of mutual interest with the participation of relevant Kazakh organizations and companies.

The meeting was part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to expand practical cooperation between Kazakhstan and leading companies in Kuwait’s oil and gas and petrochemical sectors, as well as to attract international expertise and new technologies to promising sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy.

Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), established in 1983, is the international downstream subsidiary of the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and operates under the Q8 brand. The company is active in oil refining, petrochemicals, aviation fuel, and the retail distribution of petroleum products. KPI’s international retail network comprises more than 4,500 filling stations, including joint ventures, and is represented, among others, in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, and Vietnam. The company also participates in major refining and petrochemical projects in Italy, Vietnam, and Oman.
