Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin met with Alexander Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation. The parties discussed the development of mutual trade, cooperation in agriculture and industry, and transport logistics.

In the first eight months of this year, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the Leningrad Region increased by 2.5% to $257.9 million.

The parties identified the agro-industrial complex as a promising area. Kazakhstan is interested in developing joint projects in dairy farming, plant breeding, food production, and agricultural processing. The Leningrad Region's experience in these areas could serve as a basis for expanding cooperation and increasing raw material processing volumes.

Special attention was given to industrial cooperation and localization of production. Potential for joint projects exists in mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, equipment manufacturing, and construction materials. The parties also discussed the supply of raw materials for mineral fertilizer production and a project to produce modern organic fertilizers in the Zhambyl region.

Transport logistics was an important topic. Alexander Drozdenko noted the region's interest in long-term contracts for the transportation of Kazakh cargo through the ports of the Leningrad region. The parties also discussed rail transit and the need to improve the sustainability of freight transport.

Furthermore, prospects for cooperation in the nuclear industry, including the training of nuclear specialists, were discussed.

Serik Zhumangarin emphasized the importance of moving from agreements to specific projects and proposed intensifying direct contacts between enterprises in the two regions.

"Our goal is to expand mutual trade, develop joint ventures, and create conditions for the implementation of initiatives that will bring practical benefits to both sides," noted the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
