The IX meeting of the Council of Heads of Penitentiary Services of the member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Dushanbe.
Chairman of the Committee of the penal enforcement system Tenizzhan Dzhanibekov also took part in the meeting.
The event was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Anti–terrorist center of the CIS member States and the CIS Executive Committee. The Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, Nurlan Seytimov, sent greetings to the participants of the meeting. It noted the role of the Council in ensuring coordination of cooperation between penitentiary services in the implementation of special functions in the field of execution of criminal penalties.
During the work, the members of the council heard information on the implementation of the decisions of the previous meeting of the Council, as well as exchanged views on the situation in the Commonwealth countries in the penitentiary sphere and the main areas of cooperation in it. During the discussion, positive results of cooperation were noted, as well as problematic issues and main areas of interaction were identified.
The meeting also discussed the implementation of the interstate program of joint measures to combat crime for 2024-2028, reviewed the implementation of the activities of the program of cooperation of the CIS member states in the fight against terrorism and extremism for 2023-2025 under the competence of the Council of Heads of Penitentiary services.
It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Council of heads of penitentiary services in 2025 in Uzbekistan.
