Today, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, held a meeting with Maria Shipuleva, Director of AstraZeneca in Kazakhstan, and Deputy Director Zhalgas Daniyarov. During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation between the ministry and the company aimed at developing the higher education and science system in the country were discussed.
The head of the department, Sayasat Nurbek, noted that the ministry is actively pursuing reforms aimed at strengthening the system of higher education and science in Kazakhstan. One of the key projects is the creation of a research academic hub in Central Asia. "The purpose of this hub is to attract young people from regions with a population of about 2 billion people. It is important to create a relationship between science and production, which will allow you to train scientific personnel directly at manufacturing enterprises. Our goal is to help scientific organizations develop and create innovations that are useful for the country," the minister stressed.
Maria Shipuleva, Director of AstraZeneca, spoke about the company's long-term participation in the development of the healthcare and science system in Kazakhstan. "AstraZeneca is an international biopharmaceutical company with more than 100 years of history. We develop innovative drugs for the treatment of oncological, cardiovascular, autoimmune, respiratory, rare and other diseases. Our company is among the Top 5 pharmaceutical companies investing in science and research," she said.
The company is actively investing in the localization of production and the development of human resources, introducing innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment. According to Shipuleva, Kazakhstan is an important region for the company's presence in Central Asia, and today more than 220 AstraZeneca specialists work in the country in 19 cities.
The main areas of discussion were localization of production, investments in research and clinical trials, as well as cooperation with higher education institutions. Sayasat Nurbek also spoke about the branches of leading foreign universities in Kazakhstan that work in the fields of biotechnology, engineering and medicine, including the introduction of advanced medical technologies based on artificial intelligence. During the meeting, it was proposed to develop joint educational programs that open up prospects in the country's leading educational institutions and train personnel with the company.
Zhalgas Daniyarov added that cooperation with the ministry will make it possible to create and develop educational and scientific projects aimed at improving the competencies of future specialists.
At the end of the meeting, the parties noted that cooperation between AstraZeneca and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan will create new opportunities for the development of the country's healthcare system and scientific potential.
