Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev met with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea Sang Woo Park in Seoul.
The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure, as well as the implementation of a number of projects for the development of transport routes. The issue of the possibility of increasing direct flights from Kazakhstan to South Korea was also raised. Currently, there are 14 passenger and 6 cargo flights per week between the countries. Flights are mainly operated from Astana and Almaty. Now it is planned to launch direct flights from Shymkent to South Korea.
In addition, the Korean side expressed interest in the implementation of road construction projects in our country. It should be recalled that Korean Dongsung Engineering and ISAN Corporation are currently engaged in monitoring the quality of construction of the Almaty-Astana highway.
Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev invited a delegation from South Korea headed by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to pay a working visit to Kazakhstan at any convenient time. It is expected that during the return visit, the parties will exchange experiences in the field of Urban air mobility (UAM).
The idea of introducing the concept of urban air mobility is to create a safe and efficient air transport system and other aviation technologies. So, this will revolutionize the ways people move and goods/products move between large cities and regions by air, as well as within cities themselves.
It is expected that the concept will first be tested in the new city of Alatau City. The project will support the development of Alatau City as an innovation hub and attract Kazakhstani and Korean investors. As part of the implementation of the concept, it is planned to cooperate with leading South Korean companies such as Hyundai Motor Group.
Following the meeting, the heads of the transport departments of Kazakhstan and Korea expressed their readiness to further deepen cooperation in the field of transport logistics and interaction, which contributes to strengthening the strategic partnership between the countries.
