As part of the execution of the instruction of the Head of State on the revival of Almaty as a garden city, the active implementation of the program for large-scale landscaping of the metropolis continues. This was announced by Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev during a session of the city maslikhat, which considers the draft budget of the megalopolis for 2025-2027.
One of the key initiatives is the Green Almaty Roadmap, approved in 2022. The main goal of the program is to plant 2.5 million green spaces by 2030. It is planned to plant 320 thousand trees and shrubs annually. Over 1.2 million trees will be planted by 2025, and about 1.3 million trees by 2030.
In 2024, out of 320 thousand green spaces, 224 thousand seedlings have already been planted, of which more than 150 thousand are trees, and 74 thousand are shrubs. Tree planting continues, 96 thousand more seedlings are to be planted by the end of this year.
"In order to implement the instructions of the Head of State on the revival of the status of "Almaty – garden city", 500 km of automatic irrigation and drip irrigation networks were installed in 2023-2024, in 2025 another 290 km of such networks will be installed in the amount of 4.1 billion tenge. This will allow covering more than 1 million trees with an automatic irrigation system," Yerbolat Dosayev said.
Recall that in April 2024, as part of the "Almaty is our common Home" campaign, a large–scale landscaping campaign "Almaty is a garden city" was held. During the event, more than 7 thousand green spaces were planted, including 4,015 fruit trees (3,855 apple trees), 1,090 deciduous trees and 2,600 shrubs.
The main plantings were carried out in key areas of the city: 2,270 apple saplings in the ALA Park, 500 fruit trees in the park north of BAKA Street (apple tree — 250 pcs., apricot — 250 pcs.) and 1,000 hardwood trees on the observation deck along the Boraldai River.
The regional akimats have also actively joined in the creation of apple alleys and the planting of shrubs. 70 apple trees and 250 shrubs were planted in the Alatau district, 220 apple trees in the Medeu district, of which 150 seedlings were planted on the territory of the Almaty Zoo, 230 apple trees in the Bostandyk district, including 150 seedlings in the park of the First President.
The Green Almaty Roadmap is not only a contribution to improving the environmental situation, but also to improving the quality of life of citizens. Green spaces contribute to improving the microclimate, reducing air pollution and creating a comfortable urban environment.
