Athletes from Karaganda won a gold and two bronze medals at the World Sambo Masters Championship. Bolat Manabayev, Zeynolla Makhmetov and Dauren Yessimkhanov scored.
The competitions were held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). About 400 athletes from 13 countries competed for medals. Sambo wrestlers over 35 years old competed in seven age categories.
Karaganda residents have three medals in their piggy bank. Bolat Manabayev became the best in the M6 age category (60-64 years old). Zeynolla Makhmetov (M5 – 55-59 years old) and Dauren Yessimkhanov (M2 – 40-44 years old) won bronze.
– There were 11 participants in my weight class. I won the first fight against an Uzbek athlete, the second against a Russian one. He lost to a Mongolian sambo wrestler in the semifinals. In the fight for the third place, he defeated a Russian. Now I will work on mistakes in order to take first place next time," says Dauren Yessimkhanov, head of the School of higher sportsmanship in non–Olympic sports of the Karaganda region.
Kazakhstan took the second place in the team competition: 11 gold, 14 silver, 19 bronze.
