Within the framework of the republican concept of "Taza Kazakhstan" in Almaty, it is planned to completely modernize the infrastructure for the collection of solid household waste by the end of 2025. This was announced by Mayor Yerbolat Dosayev during a session of the city maslikhat, which reviewed the draft budget of the megalopolis for 2025-2027.
The large-scale project has been implemented since 2023 due to the high wear and tear of the solid waste collection infrastructure created in 2012. The main goal is to improve the environmental situation, increase the comfort of citizens and comply with modern standards of sanitary cleaning.
The Mayor of the city stressed that comprehensive measures will significantly improve the quality of services provided. So, today, the daily output of garbage trucks on the line has increased from 70% in 2023 to 85% in 2024, and in 2025 it will be increased to 95%.
Currently, 8,003 containers are operating in Almaty, located at 1,454 container sites. As part of the modernization, the number of buried containers with a volume of 3 cubic meters has been increased, which prevent the spread of unpleasant odors and the access of birds or stray animals. In 2023, 214 containers were installed at 42 sites, for which 600 million tenge was allocated. In 2024, the number of such containers was increased by 786 units at 142 sites, for which 1.3 billion tenge was allocated. In 2025, another 1,683 containers will be installed at 581 sites, which will require investments in the amount of 4.3 billion tenge.
In addition, 1,800 plastic Euro containers with a volume of 1.1 cubic meters were purchased in 2024, and another 1,000 such containers are planned to be purchased in 2025. Thus, in 2025, the share of modernized container sites will reach 100%.
These measures will not only improve the efficiency of waste collection, but also create conditions for further implementation of the principles of separate garbage collection and recycling. The city continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development initiatives and improving the quality of life of the population.
