The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to work on an ongoing basis to open new international routes and increase the number of flights to existing destinations, including by foreign airlines.
So, as part of this work, the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by the Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lastaev T.T., took part in the ICAO Air Traffic Negotiations event (ICAN-2024), which was held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
ICAN-2024 was held for the 16th time and is one of the most important ICAO events, which is held in order to organize meetings of the organization's member countries to expand the legal framework for international flights.
The event was attended by the President of the ICAO Council, Mr. Salvatore Sciaccitano, and according to the organizers, over 700 participants from more than 70 countries participated, during which about 800 bilateral negotiations were held. Among the participants were 14 Ministers and Deputy Ministers responsible for the civil aviation industry of the participating countries.
On the sidelines of ICAN-2024, the President of the ICAO Council, Mr. S. Shakkitano, met with the Kazakh delegation. Mr. Shakkitano highly noted the progress of the work carried out by the Republic of Kazakhstan to liberalize the air transportation market in the country and confirmed his intention to visit the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2025.
As part of this event, the Kazakh delegation held talks with the aviation authorities of the Russian Federation, Singapore, Malaysia, Great Britain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Georgia, Morocco, Ethiopia and Rwanda, following which an agreement was reached with the countries to expand the legal framework for regular flights.
The Kazakh delegation also held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation V.V. Poteshkin, during which an agreement was reached to establish air links from Kazakhstan and Russia to Baikonur in order to develop tourism to the space station.
According to the agreements reached, the number of permitted frequencies with 4 countries (Vietnam, Morocco, Ethiopia, Rwanda) has been increased more than 5 times (from 14 to 73 flights per week). Also, an "open skies" regime has been established with 5 countries (Singapore, Vietnam, Morocco, Ethiopia, Georgia), including granting carriers the right to use the fifth degree of "air freedom". At the same time, during the negotiations, the rights to operate flights to the UK were secured.
