A meeting of the interdepartmental headquarters for combating drug addiction and drug trafficking was held under the chairmanship of Akim of the Mangystau region Nurdaulet Kilybai. The issues of drug crime prevention and the fight against drug smuggling were discussed at the meeting.
According to Akylbek Samatov, Head of the Operational Department of the Mangystau Region Department of the Border Service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, this year, in cooperation with territorial divisions of state bodies, 25 cases of drug trafficking were prevented, narcotic substances were seized.
In addition, it was noted that one of the most effective ways to detect drugs and prevent their entry into the country is the use of non-intrusive means of inspection.
During the meeting, Deputy head of the Mangystau region Police Department, Police Colonel Ilyas Zhumagulov said that 428 drug-related offenses were registered in the region in 11 months of 2024. Of these, 100 cases were classified as drug offenses, the remaining 328 as administrative offenses.
In order to prevent drug addiction, 699 preventive measures were organized in the region, which were attended by 17,302 people, including schoolchildren, students, youth and military personnel.
Also, the akimat of the region, the prosecutor's office and the police department, together with the youth policy department, launched the Telegram bot "Stop Synthetic Mangystau", designed to obtain anonymous information about drug crimes.
Akim of the region Nurdaulet Kilybai stressed the need to intensify work on combating drug addiction and stressed the importance of joint work in this direction.
- Drug addiction is a threat to the future of the nation. We can only deal with this with cooperation and responsibility. Every citizen should be indifferent to this issue," said Nurdaulet Kilybai.
