A meeting was held at the Ministry of Culture and Information with the Director of the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan (UNODC). The parties discussed potential cooperation in the field of crime prevention among young people and the promotion of healthy lifestyle.
Vice Minister of Culture and Information Yevgeny Kochetov stressed that the above-mentioned areas are among the key ones on the agenda. He said that the Youth Policy Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is successfully functioning in Kazakhstan, the Concept of State Youth Policy for 2023-2029 is being implemented. Comprehensive interagency work is also underway.
"Under the auspices of the Council for Youth Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, comprehensive plans have been developed to combat drug addiction and drug trafficking, as well as to counter illegal gambling and ludomania.
In general, our work is based on the principle of working "with young people", not "for young people". That is, it is the youth themselves who determines priorities for work and problematic issues that need to be addressed," said Yevgeny Kochetov.
In turn, the Director of the UNODC Regional office, Oliver Stolpe, presented courses aimed at working with young people. One of them is the "Get into Life" program for educational institutions, which helps young people gain useful physical and psychological skills through sports. Oliver Stolpe also offered to hold an extended briefing, where experts would tell in more detail about the initiatives and results of the work of the department.
