A round table dedicated to the development of e-commerce in Kazakhstan was held in Astana. The event, organized in the format of an open dialogue, became a platform for discussing topical issues and jointly searching for effective solutions. Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev, as well as representatives of key government agencies, NCE Atameken and business associations, including Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the QAZTECH Alliance Asset Issekeshev, took part in its work.

E-commerce in the country is growing rapidly. Since 2020, its volume has increased from 476.7 billion to 2.4 trillion tenge in 2023, which amounted to 12.7% of the total retail trade. The government aims to reach 18.5% by 2029, and therefore has developed a Plan for the development of e-commerce until 2027. It provides for measures to improve legislation, train entrepreneurs and interact with international marketplaces.
During the meeting, the participants outlined the key problems faced by companies in the field of e-commerce. One of the main aspects of the discussion was the development of proposals to support fair competition, protect consumer rights, protect personal data and improve market conditions for businesses. Attention is paid to the joint work of government agencies and business to create a competitive and stable environment for the development of e-commerce in the country.
According to Nurlan Rakhmetov, Managing Director of the QAZTECH Alliance, e-commerce is important for small and medium-sized businesses. He stressed the need for a regulatory balance, consumer protection and the creation of an infrastructure conducive to the sustainable growth of e-commerce.
Seller of Nemo LLP.kz" Eldos Hapez emphasized the positive impact of e-commerce on small and medium-sized businesses, which allowed them to establish their own production.
"We have been working in the e-commerce market since 2020. During this time, we have paid more than 2 billion tenge in taxes, we have 70 employees, 9 stores and a warehouse of about 7 thousand square meters. We are developing our own brand in the niche of monitors by registering a trademark. In 2024, they occupied 10% of the market and entered the TOP 4 brands. We have also started to produce household appliances and plan to open assembly shops," said Eldos Hapez.
Minister of Trade Arman Shakkaliyev, summing up the meeting, proposed to form a project group to systematically address the issues raised.
"As an authorized body in the field of trade, we take the initiative to form a project group and invite you to join it. The project team will develop 4-5 key system solutions that will be cross-sectoral and multiplicative in nature. Among them are the issues of suppressing shadow turnover, increasing the volume of sales of domestically produced goods, involving more entities in the field of e-commerce, as well as ensuring the traceability of safe and high-quality goods for consumers," Arman Shakkaliyev said.
