Within the framework of the republican program "Taza Kazakhstan" in 2025, Almaty will completely modernize the infrastructure for the collection of solid household waste (MSW). This was announced by Mayor of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev during the session of the city maslikhat, which adopted the city budget for 2025-2027.
The large-scale MSW infrastructure modernization project is aimed at improving the environmental situation, increasing the comfort of citizens and meeting modern standards of sanitary cleaning. Among the key stages of modernization is an increase in the number of buried containers (with a volume of 3 m3), which prevent the appearance of unpleasant odors and the access of birds or stray animals.
Today, over 8 thousand containers are operating in Almaty, located at 1,454 container sites. In 2023, 214 containers were installed at 42 sites, and this year the number of such containers has increased by 786 units. In 2025, 1,683 more containers will be installed at 581 sites.
Another stage is the purchase of plastic Euro containers: 1,800 containers with a volume of 1.1 m3 were purchased in 2024, and another 1,000 containers are planned to be purchased in 2025.
"The city is experiencing high wear and tear and the "moral" obsolescence of the solid waste collection infrastructure created in 2012. In this regard, its deep modernization has been carried out since 2023. 1 thousand buried containers and 1.8 thousand Euro containers have already been updated. In 2025, the complete modernization of all container sites in the city will be completed by installing another 2.7 thousand new containers," Yerbolat Dosayev said.
In addition, the daily output of garbage trucks on the line has increased from 70% in 2023 to 85% in 2024, and in 2025 it will be increased to 95%.
Thus, in 2025, the share of modernized container sites will reach 100%. These measures will not only improve the efficiency of waste collection, but also create conditions for further implementation of the principles of separate garbage collection and recycling.
