In 2025, Almaty plans to reconstruct the Alma-Arasan radon spring, one of the most iconic objects of the Great Almaty Gorge. This was reported during the session of the Maslikhat of Almaty, at which the city's budget for 2025-2027 was adopted.
The spring, known for its unique healing properties, attracts tourists and residents of the city not only from Kazakhstan, but also from abroad. In response to numerous complaints from citizens and tourists related to inconveniences and risks caused by the state of the current infrastructure, it was decided to carry out a comprehensive upgrade. The last repair of the source was carried out in 2019, since then its infrastructure has required modernization to meet modern standards of comfort and safety.
The landscaping project provides for a complete reconstruction of infrastructure facilities. Among the main activities are the installation of new bridges with safe anti-slip coatings, the renovation of the road network and pedestrian zones. Ladders with handrails will be installed in the most dangerous areas, as well as reinforcement and replacement of damaged elements. In addition, the flooring of all sections will be made of steel mesh, which will ensure safety both in summer and in winter.
Additionally, the project includes the installation of new signs and information stands that will help tourists navigate the area, as well as introduce them to the healing properties of the radon spring.
It is expected that after the completion of the work, Alma-Arasan will become not only a safe and convenient object to visit, but also a unique tourist attraction that contributes to the development of eco-tourism.
