Today, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan and Orhun Medical (Turkey) signed an agreement on the implementation of a large-scale project aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of treatment and diagnosis for patients with cancer.
"The opening of equipped centers will enable patients with cancer to receive highly effective diagnostics and safe treatment at the level of world standards within the country, without traveling abroad. Proper and timely cancer treatment using the latest technologies will improve the detection of the disease, increase the proportion of patients with a five-year survival threshold, and improve the quality of life of cancer patients," Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova noted during the signing.
The Agreement provides for the construction of a building and equipping with special equipment - a cyclotron complex for the production of radiopharmaceuticals required for PET/CT, SPECT/CT in Almaty.
New positron emission tomography centers combined with computed tomography (PET/CT) will be established in the cities of Aktau, Aktobe, Karaganda, Kyzylorda and Ust-Kamenogorsk.
In order to introduce advanced complex methods of diagnosis and therapy of malignant tumors, it is planned to open a Theranostics Center in Almaty, where radioisotope preparations will be used in combination with single-photon emission tomography and computed tomography.

PET/CT examination makes it possible to identify oncological diseases in the early stages, which are difficult to detect using CT, MRI and ultrasound, determine the degree of complexity of the disease, its prevalence in the body and prescribe the right treatment.
Every year, more than 35 thousand people get cancer in the country, more than 14 thousand people die, and more than 200 thousand Kazakhstanis are registered. In the Republic of Kazakhstan, cancer mortality is one of the leading and ranks third.
The comprehensive program for the modernization of the oncological service in Kazakhstan provides for both significant technical re-equipment of the oncological service, and this is the modernization of existing diagnostic equipment, expansion and improvement of radiation treatment through the installation of new linear accelerators and replacement of outdated devices, as well as the organization of nuclear medicine centers; the development of minimally invasive surgery and interventional treatment methods, the introduction of complete genomic profiling in order to selection of personalized therapy, increasing the availability of the latest antitumor drugs, creation of modern cancer centers, training of a new generation of personnel, etc.
