As part of flood control measures, dam construction is underway in the residential areas of three microdistricts at risk of flooding in the Zhibek Zholy village of Arshaly district. The Akim of Akmola region Marat Akhmetzhanov and the Vice-Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Tulenbergenov reviewed the progress of the work.
Today, more than half of the work has been completed. The length of the protective device is more than 6 kilometers, and the height, depending on the terrain, ranges from 2 to 5.3 meters. In addition, three crossings for vehicles and livestock will be built.
According to Janet Mikishev, head of the Department of Natural Resources and Nature Management of Akmola region, construction and installation work will be completed in October this year. The first stage - the construction of the main part of the dam and crossings - will be completed before the flood period. Currently, the area is being cleared of bushes, the fertile soil layer is removed, and inert materials are being delivered. 63 pieces of equipment were involved in the work, including dump trucks, bulldozers, rollers, and motor graders. The project is being implemented at the expense of the "Support Kazakhstan Fund".
"Last year, large-scale work was carried out in this area, and significant financial and human resources were spent. It is necessary to take into account all the problems that arose during last year's floods. The main thing is to perform the work qualitatively. All contractors have been warned: strict control is being carried out, every tenge allocated is accounted for," - noted M. Akhmetzhanov.
In addition, work is underway to reconstruct the protective dam for Lake Anarkol in the Anar rural district of the Arshaly district. Currently, 60% of the work has been completed, and it is planned that 90% of the dam will be ready by the end of February. In order to prevent the lake from overflowing and overflowing the dam, 15 water diversion structures will be installed in the lower part of the Anarkol Lake dam.
