The largest chess academy in the country has opened in Ulytau region

A branch of the chess academy of five-time world champion, grandmaster Zhansaya Abdymalik has begun its work in Zhezkazgan. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabosynov, the Governor of Ulytau region Dastan Rysbekov, and the Chairman of the Board of Kazakhmys Corporation LLP Nurakhmet Neriev.
The branch is the largest academy in the country. The total area of the building is 900 square meters. About 1,000 young chess players from the region aged 5-18 are studying here.
“I am glad to meet you in the cradle of the nation - Ulytau. I sincerely congratulate you all on the opening of the academy. The head of state pays special attention to the sports sector. As a result, our athletes always stand out at world competitions. In chess, our athletes show very high results at world competitions. More than 8 thousand chess clubs operate in our country. More than 270 thousand children are engaged in chess. Zhansaya herself is an international grandmaster. She has made a name for herself on the world stage, and in addition to her own career in sports, she is also introducing children to sports and paving the way for them. I am sure that in the future, athletes who will conquer world competitions will grow up from such academies,” said Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov.
At the opening ceremony, Ulytau region governor Dastan Ryspekov expressed confidence that famous chess players and national champions from our region will represent Ulytau region not only at the republican level, but also on the world stage.
The chess academy in Zhezkazgan was built within the framework of a memorandum between Kazakhmys Corporation and the Ulytau region akimat. This demonstrates the importance of cooperation between business and state organizations for the development of sports and education in our country.
In addition, the first international children's team tournament, KAZAKHMYS YOUTH TEAM CHESS CUP, was organized as part of the opening of the academy. More than 100 young chess players from Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia took part in this competition.
