At the Almaty Cancer Center, the head of the surgery department, Nurlan Baltaev, performed a unique operation to remove a malignant kidney tumor from a young patient. The woman was diagnosed with a tumor of the left kidney of considerable size — 4 by 3 cm, requiring immediate surgical intervention. The complexity of the operation was not only in the size of the neoplasm, but also in its central location, which posed a risk of damage to important organ structures.
The specialists decided to perform laparoscopic resection of the kidney, seeking not only to remove the tumor, but also to preserve the organ and its function. This is a low-traumatic method that allows surgery to be performed through small incisions, which significantly shortens the recovery period and reduces the risk of postoperative complications.
"Our main task was not only to remove the tumor, but also to preserve kidney function. This is especially important for young patients to avoid the risks associated with loss of nephrons, which can affect the quality of life and general health in the future," says Nurlan Baltaev.
During the intervention, surgeons skilfully bypassed the pelvis, the area of the kidney responsible for collecting and transporting urine, which required high precision and coherence of the team's actions. Thanks to the professionalism and jewelry work of the doctors, it was possible to completely remove the malignant tissue, preserving the integrity and functionality of the kidney.
Kidney cancer is an oncological disease in which malignant degeneration of kidney tissues occurs, disrupting the urinary system and threatening serious consequences for the entire body. As the doctor reminds, with early detection of the disease and timely treatment, the five-year survival rate can reach 80-90%, therefore it is extremely important to undergo regular preventive examinations.
The Almaty Cancer Center is actively implementing innovative cancer treatment methods. Over the past eight months, 1,815 surgical operations have been performed at the center, with surgical activity reaching 99%. More than 50% of all operations are now performed using minimally invasive access, which reduces the traumatic nature of interventions and shortens the recovery period of patients.
