Advance preparation for the flood period

The Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted surveys of the preparation of all regions for the implementation of flood control measures for the flood period of 2025.
The audit found that most of the activities are carried out
within the framework of regional engineering work plans. The total number of planned events is 1,258, of which 923 or 73% have been completed.
Thus, preventive measures are being taken to erect and strengthen protective dams and ramparts, arrange drainage channels and ditches, build a stormwater system, arrange and replace culverts, repair GTS and more.
Currently, 275.1 km of protective dams and ramparts have been erected, repaired and strengthened in the regions, 92.07 km of drainage systems have been repaired and built, 518.65 km of culverts under roads and railways have been installed and replaced, 194.67 km of canals and 228.5 km of ditches have been arranged, 38 GTS have been repaired. Shore protection was carried out on sections of riverbeds – 65.6 km, dredging – 182.75 km, straightening – 111.7 km, cleaning – 166.6 km.
Thus, in the city of Karaganda, the functioning of a storm system with a length of 17,110 meters has been restored, of which 8,420 meters are of a closed type, 8,690 meters of a ditch system. Work continues on the construction of a bypass canal over 2 kilometers long on the outskirts of the South-East microdistrict, 529 meters of storm sewers and cleaning of the Malaya Bukpa riverbed.
"These measures will minimize the problems with meltwater," said Margulan Amanbayev, head of the Emergency Department of the Karaganda region.
In the Zhetisu region, work is underway on shore reinforcement, dredging and straightening of the Koksu riverbed. These measures are aimed at preventing the threat of flooding of the villages of Balpyk bi and Karatal, as well as the erosion of the bridge of the highway of republican significance "Almaty–Oskemen".
"This project is an important step in preparing for the flood period of 2025 and will ensure the safety of the population and the strategic infrastructure of the region," Nurlan Bekbosynov, head of the Emergency Department of the Zhetisu region, informed.
Work in this direction continues.
