Meeting of the Minister with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to the Republic of Kazakhstan

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nysanbayev held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Kazakhstan Katie Leach. During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas of cooperation in the field of ecology, sustainable development and combating climate change.
The Minister stressed the importance of Kazakhstan's work to fulfill international climate commitments, and also spoke about the results of the 29th Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku.
E. Nysanbayev noted the importance of implementing the Strategy to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2060, as well as the development of a new, more ambitious Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (ONUV) 3.0 by 2035.
The parties discussed the holding of a Regional Climate Summit in 2026, which will be aimed at coordinating the climate actions of the Central Asian countries and expressed their readiness to work together on this issue.
The Minister also noted joint projects within the framework of the Partnership for the Introduction of Markets (PMI) program and the development of integration of the national emissions trading System with European standards.
In addition, new opportunities for cooperation in the field of regenerative agriculture, as well as plans for the conservation of biodiversity in Kazakhstan, were discussed. Special attention was paid to the Altyn Dala initiative, which in 2024 received the prestigious Earthshot Prize for the restoration of the saiga population.
Concluding the meeting, Ye. Nysanbayev expressed gratitude to the British side for its support and willingness to continue fruitful cooperation in the environmental field.
