The mountainous territories of Almaty, Almaty and East Kazakhstan regions are most prone to avalanches. Avalanches can pose a great danger, causing human casualties (in particular, among climbers, downhill skiers and snowboarders, freeriders) and causing significant damage to economic facilities.
"Currently, the snow height in the mountainous regions of the Republic is within the norm or exceeds it. According to weather forecasts of RSE Kazhydromet, precipitation in mountainous areas is expected to be higher than normal in December. In order not to be under an avalanche, every person going to the mountains is obliged to learn the basic rules of behavior in the mountains and during avalanches," said Yerbolat Sadyrbayev, head of the State Institution Kazselezashchita of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
To prevent accidents during an avalanche-prone period, the following avalanche safety measures should be observed:
when going to the mountains, take into account the weather forecast and make route maps;
to ride in a group and not go out into dangerous areas without knowing the basics of avalanche safety;
it is advisable to bring an avalanche transceiver (beepers) with you, which will make it possible to find a person trapped in an avalanche;
when driving along an avalanche-prone slope as part of a tourist group, each participant should tie an avalanche ribbon around his waist.
If an avalanche has fallen high and there is time to do something, it is very important to remember one of the basic rules of behavior when an avalanche is rushing at you: to get out of the way of a rushing stream to a safe place, you need to move horizontally, not downwards. You can also hide behind a ledge, preferably in a cave, climb an elevation, a stable stone or a strong tree.
If it so happened that it did not work out to get away from the avalanche, one of the rules of conduct says that you need to immediately get rid of all the things that will drag you into the rushing stream and restrict movement: from a backpack, skis, poles, an ice axe. It is necessary to immediately start making your way abruptly to the edge of the stream, doing everything possible (including swimming movements) to stay at the top, and if possible, catch on a tree, stone, bush.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends, due to the unstable state of snow on the mountain slopes, not to go out on snow-covered mountain slopes, so as not to provoke avalanches, and refrain from hiking in the mountains.
