The largest UNDP agency, together with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is launching a large-scale regional program that will cover the regions of Abai, Ulytau, Zhetysu and Kyzylorda region. In this regard, representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) arrived in the Abai region on a working visit. The main topic of the agenda was the start of work on a regional program for the development and support of the Abai region.
"A number of works are underway in the Abai region to develop the region. Much attention is paid to discussing the implementation of goals at different sites in order to find optimal solutions. Taking this opportunity, I would like to confirm the commitment of our region to a strategic course for further deepening multifaceted cooperation with international organizations. In general, understanding the importance of relations between the parties, the Abai region is open for dialogue in all spheres and is ready to consider the proposals of the UNDP regional program," said Deputy Akim of the Abai region Zhasulan Sarsebayev.
It is important to note that back in December 2023, experts from the Institute of Economic Research JSC, with the support of UNDP, held a seminar in the Abai region on the harmonization of indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The participants in the discussion were representatives of regional administrations and akimats of rural districts. The outcome of the event was the approval of a list of regional indicators, some of which will be included in the regional development program.
"UNDP is working on projects for the development of regions. One of the key areas of the program is the development of the social sphere, support for people with disabilities, as well as the implementation of initiatives in the field of closed—loop economics and animal husbandry. A lot of work has been done. And the most important issue is to carry out strategic planning. I think our work will be fruitful," said Sukhrob Khojimatov, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Kazakhstan.
Plans for 2025 include harmonization of regional development plans with the SDGs, localization of sustainable development goals at the regional level, creation of mechanisms for co-financing programs between the akimat and the private sector, involvement of audit commissions and maslikhats to monitor the implementation of social facilities.
