In order to prepare for the flood period next year, on the instructions of the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, basin inspections of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation conducted a survey of hydraulic structures.
Recall that there are 8 basin inspections in the country: Aral-Syrdarya, Balkhash-Alakol, Yertis, Yesil, Zhaiyk-Caspian, Nura-Sarysu, Tobol-Torgai and Shu-Talas.
The reservoirs of the Tobol-Torgai basin are filled by 62%, the Yesil basin – by 85%, the Zhaiyk-Caspian basin – by 37%, the Yertis basin – by 83%, the Nur-Sarys basin – by 86%, the Aral-Syrdarya basin – by 23%, the Balkhash-Alakol basin – by 89%, the Shu-Talas basin – by 54%.
"All reservoirs are operating according to the established schedule, which will be adjusted depending on flood forecasts. Today, water is being discharged from reservoirs in the northern, western and eastern regions. This is done to ensure free volumes for receiving water during the spring flood. Reservoirs in the south of Kazakhstan are operating in accumulation mode. Due to the abundance of water, the Tasotkel reservoir in Zhambyl region, which is 76% full, will be transferred to the transit mode," said Gulmira Imasheva, Acting Chairman of the Committee for Regulation, Protection and Use of Water Resources.
