Kostanay region demonstrates significant growth in the field of commercial fish farming: over the past four years, the number of farms engaged in this area has increased 18 times, reaching 70. Traditionally, whitefish and cyprinid fish species are grown in the lakes of the region, and since this year sturgeon has been bred here for the first time.
Serik Beisimbayev, head of the Tobol – Torgai Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate, attributes this growth to the adoption of an aquaculture development program and support from the state. This year, farms have received subsidies for more than 50 million tenge.
Entrepreneur Valentin Ishchenko has implemented the first major project for the cultivation and processing of valuable fish species with a capacity of 45 tons of products per year. The cost of the project is 300 million tenge.
The farm processes about 500 kg of fish daily. In the future, it is planned to increase the assortment and process about 100 items.
As part of the aquaculture development program in the region, they intend to increase the production of commercial fish annually and within five years bring this figure to 10 thousand tons of products per year.
