A solemn meeting dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan was held in Almaty today. It was attended by State Adviser of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Karin, Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, Secretary General of the International Organization TURKSOY Sultan Raev, President of the Eurasian Union of Writers Ufuk Tuzman.
State Councilor Yerlan Karin read out a congratulatory letter from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Union.
"The Writers' Union is a pillar of the spirituality of our people. Being a creative association of writers and poets, this organization makes a great contribution to the development of our literature and culture, contributes to their popularization in the world. We can say that the Writers' Union is a solid foundation of our national identity.
Now we are forming a new quality of our nation. And the intelligentsia has a special role to play in educating the progressive generation. I express my sincere gratitude to all the writers and poets who, deeply aware of this responsibility, promote high humanistic ideals," the letter of the Head of State reads.
Also, Advisor to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Arslan Koishiev read out congratulations from the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov.
The solemn meeting was attended by distinguished guests from different countries – Chairman of the Writers' Union of Turkey Musa Kazim Aryzhan, member of the Board of the Writers' Union of the People's Republic of China, Honorary writer of Kazakhstan Akbar Majit, Chairman of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan Anar Rzayev, Secretary of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan Rashad Mazhitov, Deputy Chairman of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan Majid Gayrat, People's Writer of Uzbekistan Usmankul Azimov, Swedish writer and literary critic Paul Fries, Chairman of the National Union of Writers of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanybek Imanaliev, People's Writer of Kyrgyzstan, adviser to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Arslan Koishiev, Russian writer Andrey Reyzvykh, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Tatarstan Rkail Zaidullin, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Bashkortostan Aigiz Baymukhametov, Chairman of the Union of Writers of Yakutia, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Cholbon" Gavril Androsov Vasily Zakharov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Union of Writers of the Chuvash Republic, as well as representatives of the creative intelligentsia, public organizations and business of Kazakhstan.
"Today we are building a Fair Kazakhstan. And we can confidently say that modern Kazakh literature is also going through a period of renewal. Ambitious authors, new themes, genres and styles give a new impetus to the literary process," Chairman of the Writers' Union Mereke Kulkenov noted in his speech.

The history of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan begins with the First Congress of Writers of Kazakhstan, held on June 12-18, 1934. Over the years, the organization was headed by famous writers I.Zhansugirov, G.Togzhanov, S.Mukanov, T.Durimbetov, M.Karataev, D.Abilev, A.Tazhibaev, A.Zhaimurzin, G.Mustafin, G.Musrepov, A.Sharipov, A.Alimzhanov, J.Moldagaliev, O.Suleimenov, K.Naimanbaev, N.Orazalin, U.Esdaulet.
Currently, the Writers' Union is one of the largest creative unions in the country, which consists of 1015 Kazakhstani writers and poets.
The newspaper "Kazakh adebieti", magazines "Zhuldyz", "Prostor", "Zhalyn", which are the flagships of national literature and art, are published under the auspices of the Writers' Union.
