Provision of drinking water is still important in the Mangystau region. To gradually resolve the issue of energy shortage, 10 projects with a total capacity of 140.5 thousand cubic meters of desalinated water are planned to be implemented by 2025. Among them are:

A desalination plant with a capacity of 17,000 cubic meters per day has been launched at the Karazhanbas field. As a result, 15,000 cubic meters of drinking water released from the Astrakhan–Mangystau water pipeline are used by residents of Zhanaozen, Beineu and Zhetybai villages.
Work continues on the 2nd stage of increasing the capacity of the Caspian desalination plant to 40 thousand cubic meters. It is planned to complete them by the end of this year.

A desalination plant with a capacity of 7,000 cubic meters per day has been built in Aktau at the expense of a private investor. Currently, the plant produces 5,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day.
A desalination plant with a capacity of 6,500 cubic meters per day has been built by a private investor in the village of Sayyn Shapagatov, Tupkaragan district. Today, the plant produces 4,000 cubic meters of drinking water and supplies drinking water to the villages of Akshukur and Sayin Shapagatov. Its capacity will be increased in the future.

"This year, construction of water desalination plants with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters per day in the town of Fort Shevchenko, Tupkaragan district, and 24,000 cubic meters per day on the territory of MAEK, a plant producing 50,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day in the Kendirli area, has begun. The plant is being built with the support of the national company Kazmunaygas, and we will take all necessary measures to complete these projects by 2025," Governor of the region Nurdaulet Kilybai said.

One of the alternative sources of water resources is the Kuyulus deposit, located 43 km from Aktau. Today, the pipeline is completely outdated. In order to develop the field, the water supply going to the Kaspiy desalination plant is being updated. These works are under the close supervision of the Head of State.
