A meeting of the Public Council of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held. The meeting discussed key issues related to preparations for the IX Asian Winter Games and summing up the results of the Year of Kazakhstani Tourism in China.
Ruslan Yesenalin, Chairman of the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture, provided information on preparations for the IX Asian Winter Games, which will be held from February 7 to 14, 2025 in Harbin, China. The Kazakh national team will participate in 11 disciplines, where 64 sets of awards will be awarded. The team will include 139 athletes.
At the previous Asian Winter Games, Kazakhstan won 32 medals, including 9 gold, which was a significant success for the country. The program of the Asian Games 2025 includes a new sport — ski mountaineering, in which Kazakhstani athletes also intend to show decent results.
Special attention was paid to the results of the Year of Kazakhstani Tourism in China. Chairman of the Tourism Industry Committee Nurtas Karipbayev summed up the work done. During the year, more than 35 events were held, including business forums, tourist exhibitions, ethnoaules, festivals and car rallies.
The key achievements of the Year of Kazakhstan's Tourism in China were the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and the promotion of Kazakhstan as an attractive tourist destination. 25 memorandums of cooperation were signed, which laid the foundation for the implementation of new joint projects in the tourism sector. A large-scale online campaign on popular Chinese social networks such as Weibo and WeChat reached more than 13.5 million users, contributing to the popularization of Kazakhstan.
Additionally, car rallies and international motorcycle tournaments have been held, such as the Silk Road route and the Peking-Paris Motor Challenge rally. These initiatives highlighted Kazakhstan's transport and cultural potential, strengthening its position in the international arena. As a result, the number of tourists from China exceeded 500,000 in a year, and Kazakhstan rose to 29th place among popular destinations for Chinese travelers.
