A solemn ceremony of laying flowers at the monument of Abai Kunanbayev, an outstanding Kazakh poet, thinker and public figure, took place in Kazan. The bust was installed at the intersection of Nazarbayev and Kachalov streets and became an iconic symbol of friendship and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan. The author of the bust was the famous Kazakh sculptor and member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurbol Kaliyev.
The monument is located next to a bronze replica of Taykazan, a cauldron symbolizing hospitality and unity, the original of which is located in the mausoleum of Ahmed Yasawi in Turkestan. Taykazan was donated to Tatarstan in 2018, and since then this place has become a popular venue for cultural events and a symbol of strong ties between the two peoples.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the delegation of the Abai region, among them Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhaev, chairman of the maslikhat Kuanysh Suleimenov, representatives of the delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan, public figures.
