The championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kazakh kuresi among adults is being held in Taraz. More than 450 wrestlers representing the cities of Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, as well as 17 regions of the country take part in the competitions, which started in the sports complex "Taraz Arena" named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov.
Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov took part in the opening ceremony of the Kazakh Kuresi Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In his speech, the head of the department stressed the importance of the championship and noted the sustainable development of national sports.
"Thanks to the support of the Head of State, national sports in Kazakhstan are developing rapidly, and our national brand, Kazakh kuresi, occupies a special place among them. Today, Kazakh wrestling federations operate in more than 40 countries around the world. This sport was included in the program of the Asian Indoor Games, as well as in the program of the World Martial Arts Games. At the 5th World Nomad Games held in Astana, our wrestlers won 12 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. We are proud that our athletes glorify Kazakhstan on international arenas. I am sure that this championship will not only become a test for venerable wrestlers, but also give young athletes the opportunity to hone their skills and strengthen the interest of the younger generation in Kazakh kuresi," said Erbol Myrzabosynov.
The championship is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the honored coach of the USSR and the Republic of Kazakhstan, honorary citizen of Zhambyl region Marat Nurmukhambetuly Zhakit. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of national sports, the Minister presented him with a congratulatory letter.
Marat Zhakit, who headed the national team of Kazakhstan for 20 years and the USSR national team for 10 years, made a significant contribution to the development of Kazakh sports. Under his leadership, 2 honored masters of sports, 25 masters of sports of international class and 130 masters of sports were trained.
During the championship, wrestlers will compete in 16 weight categories.
