On November 8, 2024, Vice Minister of Justice Botagoz Zhakselekova met with a representative of Apple Europe Ltd., Ms. H. Smith. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss topical issues of intellectual property rights protection and the fight against counterfeit products.
B. Zhakselekova spoke about the comprehensive work of the Ministry of Justice in this area, including regular inspections of markets and suppression of offenses, as well as the implementation of a joint project with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on training and advanced training of specialists. The Vice Minister also stressed the importance of conducting information campaigns for consumers and creating effective tools for verifying the authenticity of Apple products.
Ms. H. Smith, Head of Apple's Customs Cooperation in Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa, praised the efforts of the justice authorities in the fight against counterfeiting. She expressed gratitude to the staff of the territorial justice authorities for their purposeful work, which has already brought significant results, and noted that such measures contribute to protecting the interests of copyright holders and consumers.
At the same time, Ms. H. Smith outlined some urgent problems, such as the spread of counterfeit goods in the digital environment, in particular on e-commerce sites. She stressed the need to continue working together in this area and expressed her willingness to share the positive experience that Apple has already accumulated in other countries.
The Ministry of Justice and Apple intend to continue cooperation in the framework of strengthening the rule of law and protecting the interests of copyright holders in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
