On October 24, 2024, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.T. Oshurbayev met with the Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Caspian Sea A. Jahangiri.
During the meeting, the parties noted the active cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
Vice Minister M.Oshurbayev expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for supporting Kazakhstan's initiatives in the field of ecology within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the SCO and CICA.
The parties stressed the importance of intensifying discussions on the placement of the permanent Secretariat of the Tehran Convention and agreed to make every effort to resolve it as soon as possible.
The issues of preventing the shallowing of the Caspian Sea and its pollution, as well as combating the death of Caspian seals, were also discussed.
At the same time, regarding participation in the upcoming 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), M. Oshurbayev appealed to the Iranian side to support Kazakhstan's initiatives in the field of environmental protection and climate change, and also invited the Iranian side to participate in a side event on the topic "Realities of the Caspian Sea: sustainable development".
Following the meeting, the Parties agreed to organize a bilateral meeting within the framework of SOR29 and expressed hope for further development of mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation.
