Engineering works to prevent possible floods are actively carried out in the village of Novoselovka in the Karasu district of Kostanay region. The forces of rescuers and local executive bodies organized a controlled discharge of meltwater from Lake Alabota into the Kunduzdy River.
To divert water, a channel was built with a length of 14 kilometers, a depth of up to 14 meters and a width of up to 5 meters, through which water enters the Kunduzdy River and then the Ubagan River. This channel will reduce the water level and prevent possible consequences of floods.
An operational headquarters has been organized in the village of Novoselovka, and employees of the Department of Emergency Situations, local executive bodies, police and emergency medical services have been deployed around the clock.
Chief of the Operational Staff Kuanysh Baitursynov noted the importance of coordinating all services: "We are doing everything possible to minimize risks to the local population and respond promptly to any situation. Our main task is to ensure the safety of residents and protect the infrastructure of the area from possible floods. We will monitor the situation and take the necessary measures in a timely manner."
As a result of the work, the Karasu – Zhumagul highway was temporarily blocked, which left five settlements temporarily without automobile communication with the Karasu district center. A water crossing has been organized on this site by the forces of the Emergency Situations Ministry, using a swimming means. To date, 408 people have been transported, including local residents and workers who need to move between settlements.
To ensure safety, rescuers are on duty at the site, who monitor safety and coordinate the movement of people and goods.
