Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhayev presented a report on fire safety measures during the heating season at a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Despite an overall decrease in the number of fires in the residential sector by 10% since the beginning of the year, a significant increase of 75% was recorded during the heating period.
As the head of the region noted, the increase in the number of fires is associated with citizens' non-compliance with fire safety rules. Among the main causes of fires, careless handling of fire — 21 cases, violation of the rules of operation of furnaces — 20 cases, violations during installation and use of electrical equipment — 17 cases.
To prevent tragedies during the heating season, a Fire Prevention Plan for 2024-2025 is being implemented in the region. Special attention is paid to socially vulnerable segments of the population. 5,184 such families living in the private sector are registered.
Employees of the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Emergency Situations conducted a tour of these families, revealing 3,007 violations of fire safety. To eliminate them, local executive authorities have installed 1,342 smoke detectors since the beginning of the heating period, bringing the total number to 9,080.
Thanks to the timely installation of sensors, 18 people were saved in 2024, 9 of them children. The work on fire safety continues and is under special control of the Akimat of the Abai region.
