At the COP29 Summit on methane and non-CO2 greenhouse gases

The Kazakh delegation headed by the Presidential Adviser-Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Z.Suleimenova and Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources M. Oshurbayeva took part in the SOR29 Summit on Methane and Non-CO2 Greenhouse Gases, organized by the United States, Azerbaijan and China.
The main directions of the Summit:
Finance: Over $2 billion has been mobilized in the form of international grants to combat super pollutants and additional investments.
Policy: New measures to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector and waste disposal.
Science: Launching the first Global Assessment of Nitrous Oxide, with the aim of reducing global N2O emissions by 40%, and efforts to reduce the effects of tropospheric ozone on the climate.
In her speech, the Presidential Adviser noted that Kazakhstan will strive to finalize the development of methane regulations aimed at reducing non-emergency methane emissions and facilitating the detection and elimination of leaks in the oil and gas sector, as well as complete the National Program to Reduce Methane Emissions by COP30 in 2025.
