A meeting of the Public Council was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The results of work on ensuring law and order and security were reviewed.
The head of the department, Yerzhan Sadenov, reported to the members of the Public Council on the crime situation in the country. The Minister of Internal Affairs noted that the situation has improved significantly as a result of the comprehensive measures taken in recent years.
- The crime rate decreased to 102 thousand, or 11%. Compared to 2023, 12,700 fewer crimes were registered in 2024. If we look at the 90s, then the number of crimes exceeded 200 thousand. But we will not stop there. We aim to reach zero, - the minister said.
During the years of independence, the crime rate has decreased significantly. Statistical data confirm this trend and show significant changes in the criminogenic situation.
The decrease also applies to serious crimes, including robberies, thefts, rapes and murders. For example, in 1997, 2,594 murders were registered, while last year there were 565.
Crimes committed using firearms pose a particular threat to public safety. If 30 years ago the number of such crimes registered per year reached 1.5 thousand, last year this figure decreased to 118.
Positive dynamics are also observed in group crimes. In 1992, 18,928 such crimes were registered in Kazakhstan, while in 1994 their number reached 24,712. This period was one of the most difficult times for law enforcement agencies. Criminal groups are active, and the fight against them requires a lot of effort. However, in recent years, their number has decreased significantly. In 2024, the number of crimes committed by groups amounted to 5,588, which is a 4.5-fold decrease.
The minister also noted that the types of crimes have changed and adapted to modern technologies.
- Fraud is widespread. This accounts for 42% of all crimes. People, seeking to make a profit, invest money in dubious investments and pyramid schemes. The main reasons are the low financial literacy of the population and the lateness of citizens to contact the police. This is a phenomenon typical of many countries, - said the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Yerzhan Sadenov noted that the ministry is actively combating this threat, working to improve preventive measures and raise public awareness of cybercrime.
The meeting also reviewed the work of the Public Council. The council in its current composition has been operating for three years. During this time, many important steps have been taken to improve the activities of the internal affairs bodies.
It should be noted that the interaction of law enforcement agencies and civil society in general plays a crucial role in ensuring security and strengthening law and order in the country.
