The annual general meeting of the Council of Foreign Investors in Kazakhstan was held with the participation of representatives of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As a co-chair of the Joint Working Group on Energy, Ecology, Oil and Gas Issues, Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kudaibergen Arymbek noted the importance of effective cooperation and made interim conclusions on the implementation of the work plan of the Joint Working Group under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2024-2025.
A working group has been established to regulate gas flaring issues.
Kazakhstan's Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2060 continues to decarbonize the oil and gas sector within the framework of the 2023 Global Methane Commitment. The Vice Minister noted that Kazakhstan has joined the global methane commitment in 2023 and that this step demonstrates the country's commitment to international efforts to combat climate change.
Significant progress has been made in reducing gas flaring. As a result of the measures taken, the volume of gas flaring decreased from 3.1 billion m³ in 2006 to 0.3 billion m³ in 2024.
In addition, issues of risk management related to the decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea and the Ural River were considered. Measures are being developed with the participation of scientific institutions and international experts to minimize the negative impact on infrastructure and extractive enterprises. An adaptation strategy is also being developed to implement effective solutions to conserve water resources.
