Erzhanova Aigul Turganbaykyzy, a primary school teacher at the Raiymbek Batyr School-Lyceum No. 50 "Kazgarysh" in Astana, won two gold medals and raised our blue flag at the Open World Powerlifting Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, the official website of the capital's akimat reports.
Out of women from about 20 countries, the 54-year-old teacher, despite her advanced age, defended the honor of the country by lifting a 100-kg barbell, setting a record. Aigul Turganbaykyzy came to this sport at the age of 52. She mastered weightlifting in a year and a half and has previously become a world champion several times.
"Since Kazakhstan is participating in this competition for the first time, at first they thought I was a participant from China. However, when I showed a record result, everyone applauded me when they found out that I was from Kazakhstan,” says Aigul Turgambayevna.
Aigul Turgambayevna, who received the title of “Honored Teacher of Kazakhstan” from the Head of State last year for her significant contribution to the field of education, says that she wants to show her parents and students that it is possible to master sports along with education, discover new facets of a person at any age, and conquer the world.
It should be noted that in the future, the sports teacher will defend the honor of the country at a competition in Africa.
