The French capital is hosting a ministerial meeting of the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a global summit on action in the field of artificial intelligence. The event was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Corman.
At the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, the Kazakh delegation was led by Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiev. In his speech, he announced the Republic of Kazakhstan's intention to join GPAI, an international initiative aimed at the development and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies.
The event was attended by 44 countries. Among them, Cambodia, Malta, Romania, Croatia, Rwanda, Morocco, and Kazakhstan have expressed interest in becoming members of GPAI. The partnership participants recently approved the process of considering their applications. This statement paves the way for a broad and diverse participation in the global governance of artificial intelligence.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiev shared the results of the country's digital transformation and plans for the development of artificial intelligence, and spoke about the concept of the Alem.AI Center.
“Kazakhstan recognizes the important role of artificial intelligence in shaping our future and highly values GPAI as a unique platform for international cooperation in this area. We support GPAI's efforts to respond to the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence, bringing together governments and experts, and fully endorse its mission to spread knowledge and experience in the field of artificial intelligence around the world. In Kazakhstan, we are actively developing our national artificial intelligence ecosystem. We are creating Alem.AI - an international center designed to support innovations in the field of artificial intelligence, accelerate the development of startups, and stimulate scientific research. "We are committed to developing human capital through comprehensive educational programs that will train 200,000 citizens annually, from schoolchildren to civil servants, in basic and advanced artificial intelligence skills," said Zhaslan Madiev. The event also served as a platform for discussion on the work of the GPAI to advance the implementation of the OECD recommendations on artificial intelligence. The discussion raised issues such as bridging the artificial intelligence gap, understanding and assessing the impact of AI on the labor market and the environment, supporting sustainable agriculture, encouraging innovation through the protection of intellectual property rights, and improving access to and responsible sharing of data.

The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is an international initiative to guide the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence while respecting human rights and the shared democratic values of the participating countries. This partnership was first proposed by Canada and France at the 44th G7 Summit in 2018 and was officially announced in June 2020. The organizer of GPAI is the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
GPAI supports research and applied activities in areas directly related to artificial intelligence policy, seeking to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It brings together representatives of industry, civil society, governments and the scientific community to work together on the proposals and challenges of artificial intelligence.
