In order to reduce the incidence of viral hepatitis in Kazakhstan, it is planned to conduct comprehensive screening for hepatitis B and C among people over 18 years of age.
The results of the implementation of the pilot program for the early detection of infection with viral hepatitis B and C, as well as further steps to implement measures to reduce the incidence in the country, were discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Health, Akmaral Alnazarova, and the Director of the Center for Disease Analysis Foundation (CDAF), Dr. Homi Razavi.
One of the main and most important goals of the WHO program to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030 is their timely diagnosis.
Since viral hepatitis B and C are mainly latent (asymptomatic), in 65% of cases they end with the development of cirrhosis or liver cancer, which in turn leads to death and disability of the infected population. Therefore, it is important to ensure early detection and treatment of carriers of the infection, as they are a source of viral hepatitis for those around them.
According to the results of the pilot program, a decision was made in Kazakhstan to begin general screening for viral hepatitis B and C among people over 18 years old with the help of effective diagnostic solutions.
