Every year, on December 1, the world celebrates AIDS Day. These days, healthcare, civil society, and various departments are uniting for decisive and effective actions to prevent the spread of HIV infection. As part of this work, a month on HIV and AIDS prevention "Choose the right path – the path of human rights" has started in the capital, the official website of the Mayor's Office of Astana reports.
In the first nine months of this year, 327 new cases of HIV infection were detected in the capital. Among those identified, 75.2% are men, 24.8% are women, 62.4% are aged 20-39 years.
As part of the Global Campaign, a number of events are being held in Astana from November 1 to December 1.
Thus, during the month, various events are held with the participation of medical workers, civil society activists, educational organizations, and departmental bodies to raise awareness about HIV prevention and prevent stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
In crowded places, in shopping and entertainment centers, markets, railway stations, at the airport, as well as for guests of the city who arrived from other regions, there will be actions with rapid HIV testing with consultations of specialists on HIV infection.
Various measures are being taken in the capital to ensure high-quality access to HIV prevention and treatment services for all population groups. Thus, along with the provision of services in medical organizations, the population can be tested for HIV using non-invasive rapid tests and receive counseling from AIDS-service non-governmental organizations.
