A meeting of the akimat was held under the chairmanship of Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhayev. The issues of completing road repairs this year, their preparation for the winter season and maintenance were considered on the agenda.
In 2024, 10.3 billion tenge was allocated as part of general transfers for the average repair of local roads. The repair work covered 7 sites of district significance with a length of 60 km and 16 sites with a length of 96 km. As part of the Auyl – el Besigi program, repairs were carried out on 50.4 km of streets. The renovation of 40 streets with a total length of 36 km is being completed in Semey. The preparation of the region's roads for the winter season is proceeding systematically. Kazhservice LLP, which has 293 employees and 90 pieces of equipment, was involved in the maintenance of republican roads. Roads of regional importance are maintained by Semey Zholdary LLP together with three subcontractors.
The head of the region instructed the akims of several districts where repair work has not yet been completed to intensify this work.
"When it gets colder and it starts snowing, we start urgently repairing roads. Why is it not done on time while the weather allows? I remind you that special attention will be paid to the quality of roads! It is necessary to complete all work by the end of the year and use the allocated funds," the governor of the region stressed.
The meeting also discussed the problem of public transport in the region. The head of the region noted that this issue is often raised by the population, and it's time to solve it.
"Public transport in Semey is not working well. Who keeps track of the number of buses? There are many complaints from residents. Wherever we go, this question comes up before us everywhere. You say that the fleet is being updated, but people are unhappy! If you can't handle this job, consider bringing in carriers from other regions. How long is this going to last? It's already getting colder, the roads are slippery. Take urgent measures," the head of the region said.
The region is taking appropriate measures to protect the population in winter and prevent emergencies. As part of the preparation, the "Action Plan for the organization of protection of the population of the Abai region from emergencies in adverse road and climatic conditions in winter for 2023-2025" was approved.
Snow-retaining shields are being installed in the region, heating points are being repaired and equipped, employees are on duty on difficult road sections, additional equipment is being attracted and its heating is provided. At the meeting, the head of the region also stressed the need to start preparing for flood prevention right now.
"The areas that are dangerous for flooding are known. These areas need to be kept under special control. I instruct the Department of Passenger Transport and Highways, as well as the akims of the city and districts, to constantly monitor the quality of road works, submit a road repair plan for 2025 by December 1 and increase funding for the repair and maintenance of roads of regional significance and streets of settlements from the budgets of cities and districts," the governor of the region said.
