The work on the elimination of illegal landfills in the Abai region was discussed at a meeting chaired by Akim of the region Nurlan Urankhayev. Active work continues on the territory of the Abai region to eliminate unauthorized landfills. According to space monitoring data, 266 waste accumulation sites were identified in the period from April to October 2024. To date, 133 landfills have been eliminated, which is 50% of the total number. In the cities of Semey, Ayagoz, Zharma districts and Zhanasemy district, there is a continuation of the problem with illegal landfills.
"The heads of these cities and districts should step up work in this direction. We need to look for ways to solve the problem. Work closely with the police. If necessary, think about building a landfill," the governor of the region said.
As part of the environmental program "Taza Kazakhstan", the online platform tazaqazaqstan was launched.kz, through which citizens can submit their applications for the elimination of environmental problems. Since the launch of the platform, 102 applications have been received, of which 92 have already been executed.
"Work on improving the environmental situation in the region will continue. Special attention is paid to the development of infrastructure for waste management, as well as to improving the efficiency and quality of work on citizens' requests," said Ainur Akmyrza, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
In addition, one of the key projects in the region is the construction of a modern landfill for solid household waste (MSW) and a waste sorting plant in Semey.
According to the Comprehensive Development Plan of the Abai region, the project will be implemented until 2025. At the moment, the design has been completed and a positive conclusion of the state expertise has been received.
