Kazakhstan will host a Regional Climate Summit in 2026

On November 13, 2024, the first event "Climate Dialogue: Towards the Regional Climate Summit 2026" was held at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in the Qazaqstan Pavilion in Baku, Azerbaijan. The session was attended by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan E. Nysanbayev, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan B. Sheralizoda, Presidential Adviser – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Environmental Cooperation Z. Suleimenova, as well as representatives of international organizations F. Lapecorella – Deputy Director General of the OECD, T. Erikson – Regional Director for Central Asia of the Green Climate Fund, I. Starrost – Project Manager of GIZ, K. Abuov – Project Manager of the Asian Development Bank, to discuss prospects for regional cooperation in the field of climate change.
The Regional Climate Summit will become a platform for developing joint strategies and solutions to combat climate change. Kazakhstan strives to create conditions for an open and constructive dialogue, as well as to facilitate the exchange of best practices and innovations.
The initiative to hold the Summit was announced by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
In his address, the Minister noted that climate change requires a collective and coordinated approach. "Climate change knows no boundaries. We must all join forces to fight this global challenge," he stressed.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to international partners, noting their important role in the successful implementation of climate initiatives and in holding the Summit. In turn, international organizations have expressed their willingness to provide support.
The Regional Climate Summit is the beginning of a new era of cooperation in the field of climate policy, aimed at developing effective and adaptive solutions that will help us cope with climate challenges.
